There comes a point in life where you stop trying to be impressive…
and start trying to be useful.
Uncle Grandad didn’t arrive all at once.
He sort of formed over time… somewhere between a workshop bench, a half-finished cup of tea, and stories that never quite went the short way around.
He’s not just one man.
He’s every grandad who kept the offcuts “just in case.”
Every uncle who could fix something with fencing wire...
and stubbornness.
Every quiet tinkerer who believed that making things matters.
Born in 1968, raised in workshops, hardware stores, and country towns.
He learned early that hands teach the mind.
The name “Uncle Grandad” came later…
and like most good things, it started as a bit of a joke.
Not everything has to be serious.
Sometimes it’s about having a go, making a mess,
and laughing when it doesn’t quite work the first time.
That’s usually where the best stories come from.
Enjoy life, have a bit of fun, and maybe make someone smile along the way.
It wasn’t always like that.
There was a time when things were a bit more serious…
and honestly, that didn’t suit him much.
It’s about how you treat people.
And how you move through the world.
Most of it comes down to simple things.
The kind you don’t always notice… but you remember.
And after 50-odd years…
you realise it’s easier to just be yourself.
It probably started as a bit of a joke…
Somewhere between a conversation, a car trip,
and a “what if we just did it?”
The idea was simple…
create a place where Uncle Grandad could write, share stories,
and put all the random bits somewhere they wouldn’t get lost.
Michael registered the domain… unclegranddad.com…
and that was it, we were off.
Michelle built the website.
Uncle Grandad filled it with stories, ideas, and the occasional terrible joke.
And from there…
it just sort of grew.
It’s not meant to be anything too serious.
Just a place for stories, curiosity, and a bit of fun along the way.
There’s a few familiar faces behind all this…
each playing their part along the way.
Uncle Grandad acknowledges the Bundjalung People as the Traditional Custodians of the land on which these stories are written and shared. We pay our respects to Elders past and present, and honour the rich culture, storytelling traditions, and deep connection to Country that continue to inspire.
